Atlanta Police have announced the arrest of 39-year-old Prentiss Mayo in connection to a January 22, 2026, homicide in Northwest Atlanta.
ATLANTA, GA- The Atlanta Police Department’s Homicide Unit has announced the arrest of a 39-year-old man in connection a deadly shooting that took place on Thursday morning in a northwest Atlanta neighborhood. The suspect will be booked into jail to face several charges in connection to the case.
Atlanta police were called to the 500 block of Emily Place NW on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at 2 a.m. in reference to a person shot. Officers arrived on the scene and located a male victim that had sustained gunshot wound. Rescue personnel responded the soon and attempted life saving measures, but the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Officers detained a possible suspect at the scene of the shooting on Emily Place NW. On Thursday Atlanta Homicide Investigators secured arrest warrants for 39-year-old Prentiss Mayo, in reference to the fatal shooting that took place on earlier that morning.
APD confirms that Prentiss Mayo was taken into custody by officers assigned to the Zone 1 patrol zone. He was transported to the Detention Unit at Grady Hospital and upon his release he will be transported to the Fulton County Jail, where he faces charges of murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
APD confirms that Mr. Mayo also has an active warrant for probation violation by the Carrollton Police Department for a DUI charge. He has past convictions in the State of Georgia for DUI and Narcotics related charges.
The case remains under investigation. Remainder that all suspects are only charged with a crime and are innocent and proven innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The case marks the 6th homicide in the City of Atlanta in 2026.
