SOUTH FULTON, GA- Investigators in the city of South Fulton have announced the arrest of a 14-year-old male in connection to a deadly shooting earlier this month that claimed the lives of two area high school students and left the suburban Atlanta community in shock.
On Sunday, March 22, 2026, South Fulton Police announced the arrest of 14-year-old Keyshawn Hughes in connection to a deadly shooting that claimed the lives of a 16-year-old and a 14-year-old on March 17, 2026.
South Fulton officers responded to the 4200 block of Fortune Point on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, in reference to a shooting. When officers arrived they located two teenage victims suffering from gunshot wounds. The shooting victims were transported to a local hospital for treatment but both succumb to their injuries.
The victims in the shooting were later identified as 14-year-old Jeremiah Carter and 16-year-old J’Mauri Smarr. Both of the the teenagers were students at Banneker High School. The shooting took place in a large residential neighborhood and South Fulton Police have confirmed neither of the victims lived in the neighborhood where the shooting took place. Early information indicates the shooting may have stemmed from an earlier dispute.
South Fulton investigators have been deligently working the case and on March 22, 2026, the South Fulton Police Department Fugitive Unit was able to take their suspect into custody at a local church as he was entering a vehicle. The suspect was apprehended without incident. He has since been transported to a local detention facility and is facing numerous charges including felony murder and is being charged as an adult in connection to the case.

This is the level of commitment our community deserves, and it is the standard we will continue to uphold.”
