SAVANNAH, GA- The Savannah Police Department is investigating a Thursday afternoon shooting that left one man dead and a second person injured. Police suspect that the two victims may have shot each other following an altercation near a Savannah business.
According to information released by the Savannah Police Department, officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 2000 block of Capital Street on Thursday, January 22, 2026, shortly after 4 p.m. Officers arrived on the scene near the Capital Grocery Store around 4:10 p.m.
Responding officers discovered a 21-year-old male victim suffering from a gunshot wound. EMS arrived on the scene and performed life saving measures on the victim. He was transported to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah for treatment but succumb to his injuries. The victim has been identified as 21-year-old Johnny Fleming.
Shortly after police responded to the scene of the shooting a victim arrived to a Savannah area hospital suffering from a gunshot wound. Police suspect the second shooting victim was connected to the scene on Capital Street. The preliminary investigation by Savannah Police indicates that the two victims may have been involved in a physical altercation that escalated to gunfire and claimed the life of Mr. Fleming.
