SANDY SPRINGS, GA- A Sandy Springs police officer was injured late Saturday night following an accident on Georgia 400. A driver of the motorcycle is facing a list of charges in connection to the crash that left the officer and the motorcyclist with injuries.
The accident occurred in the northbound lanes of Georgia 400 just north of Hammond Drive on Saturday, September 20, 2025 at 10:25 p.m. The initial report indicates a patrol officer with the Sandy Springs Police Department was was on scene investigating a single-vehicle crash when a passing motorcycle lost control. This resulted in the driver of the motorcycle being thrown from the motorcycle and the motorcycle struck the officer and the vehicle that was involved in the single-vehicle crash.
Police have identified the driver of the motorcycle as Riad Ahmen. Police say both Ahmen and the officer sustained injuries in the crash and were transported to a local hospital. The officer that was injured by the out of control motorcycle has not been identified.
Police have charged Ahmen with numerous charges in connection to the accident. He is facing charges of DUI, reckless driving, serious injury by a motor vehicle, violation of the move over law, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, failure to maintain lane, suspended registration, instruction permit violation, and open container violation.
The investigation into the accident continues. The Sandy Springs Police Departments Traffic Unit is investigating the incident.
