MARIETTA, GA- Police in Marietta are investigating a fatal Saturday morning crash that claimed the life of a 32-year-old Chicago man. The two-vehicle accident also sent three other people to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
According to preliminary information released by Marietta Police on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at 6:42 a.m. officers were dispatched to the area of Powder Springs Street near the intersection of Laurel Springs Lane in reference to an automobile crash.
When responding officers arrived they located a two-vehicle accident with injuries. The initial investigation indicates a 2007 Lexus RX350 was traveling northbound on Powder Springs Street. The vehicle was being operated by an 18-year-old male. Police say the second vehicle a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling southbound on Powder Springs Street and being operated by 32-year-old Santiago Zarate-Vicente of Chicago, Illinois.
Police say the Lexus entered the travel lanes of the Silverado and struck the vehicle head-on. Police say the collision resulted in extensive damage to both vehicles. Two occupants of the Silverado and the driver of the Lexus received non-life threatening injuries and were transported to Kennestone Hospital in Marietta for treatment.
Police say the driver of the Silverado was also injured and sustained fatal injuries in the crash. Zarate-Vicente was pronounced deceased.
An active investigation continues into the crash by the Marietta Police Department’s Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) Unit. Anyone with any information is asked to contact STEP Investigator C. Henry at (770)794-5266. There have been no charges filed at this time according to MPD.
