
ATLANTA, GA- The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been called in to investigate a Tuesday officer-involved shooting in Atlanta. The shooting left a 59-year-old man injured after officers say he was wielding a knife in a threatening manner in the Buckhead area of Atlanta.
Preliminary information released by the GBI and Atlanta Police Department indicate on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at around 2:16 p.m., officers with APD responded to a domestic disturbance call in the 3200 block of Lenox Road NE.
Responding officers arrived on the scene and spoke with the 911 caller, who advised the officers that a man she had recently met had forced his way into her home. The female 911 caller told officers that she then fled her home and called 911. The caller also advised officers that she had observed the male suspect doing drugs and acting erratically.

In addition to the 911 caller a nearby maintenance worker told officers that had saw the suspect with a crowbar and a knife. The maintenance worker observed the suspect until he left the property at which time the maintenance worker lost sight of the suspect.
Responding officers remained in the area for several minutes and were able to locate the male suspect in the 3000 block of Lenox Road. Officers confronted the male suspect on the sidewalk at which time information released by the GBI indicates the suspect approached the officers brandishing a knife, resulting in the officer firing two shots at the suspect and wounding him.
The suspect has been identified as Randee Gilliam, 59, of Lithonia, Georgia. He was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta and has been listed in stable condition. The officer, who discharged their firearm has been placed on administrative leave, a standard practice of APD, following and officer-involved shooting.
Atlanta Police requested the assistance of the GBI to act as an independent body an investigate the officer-involved shooting. Upon completion on their investigation the findings of the GBI will be provided to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office for review.
