Person Injured In Shooting At Georgia Library, Police Name Suspect

DECATUR, GA- Police in the City of Decatur are seeking to locate a 44-year-old man they have obtained warrants for in connection to a shooting inside of a public library earlier this week. The victim is hospitalized as police seek to locate the person responsible for the shooting.

Decatur Police have secured arrest warrants for 44-year-old Medicus Brown of Decatur, GA. Police suspect Brown is the person responsible for shooting another person inside of the Decatur Public Library on Monday, February 2, 2026.

Initial reports indicate the on Monday, February 2, 2026, at 5:10 p.m., Decatur officers responded to the Decatur Library located at 215 Sycamore Street in reference to a person shot. Responding officers arrived on the scene and located an adult male that was suffering from gunshot wounds.

Medical personnel arrived and transported the victim to an area hospital for treatment. Police confirm the victim has been listed in critical condition.

Investigators quickly began to seek details in the shooting and gather evidence. Officers were able to identify a suspect as 44-year-old Medicus Brown of Decatur. Arrest warrants have been obtained for his arrest on charges of aggravated assault with the intent to murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
