ATLANTA, GA- An Atlanta police officer is in the hospital after being involved in an automobile accident on Monday night. The officers patrol unit struck a home in a west Atlanta neighborhood as the officer was enroute to assist another officer.
According to the Atlanta Police Department on Monday, October 20, 2025, at 8:15 p.m. an APD officer was requesting assistance from other officers. Officer Malik Safi was responding to assist the officer in need of assistance when the accident occurred.
Officer Safi was traveling in the 500 block of James P. Brawley Drive NW, when his patrol vehicle left the road and struck a nearby home. Officer Safi sustained serious injuries in the crash according to information released by APD.
Several bystanders in the area witnessed the accident and went to the aid of the injured officer and extracted him from the vehicle. Officer was transported to an area hospital where he is recovering but in serious condition.
The accident resulted in a fire, that was quickly extinguished by Atlanta Fire Rescue, who responded to the scene. The home that was struck was occupied by one occupant, who did not sustain any injuries according to police.
The Georgia State Patrol will be leading the investigation into the crash. Officer Safi has been identified as a 24-year-old officer assigned to Zone 1 Field Operations Division. He has been with the department since 2024.
