HARRIS COUNTY, GA- Deputies with the Harris County, Georgia Sheriff’s Office and the Georgia State Patrol were able to quickly nab an inmate that walked away from a worksite on Tuesday afternoon. The inmate was found in an awkward way just minutes after the escape attempt.
According to information released by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at 2:26 p.m. deputies with the agency along with troopers from the Georgia State Patrol responded to the Idle Hour Boat Ramp located on Lake Harding in Harris County in reference to an inmate that had walked away from a work detail at the boat ramp. The area is located near the town of Fortson, Georgia.
Law enforcement responding to the scene established a perimeter in the area of Mountain Drive and Lick Skillet Road. As a precautions schools in the area were notified and placed under a Code Red alert by the Harris County 911 Center.
At 2:47 p.m. a citizen notified a nearby deputy of a naked white male trying to flag down vehicles on Lick Skillet Road. The deputy responded to the scene and made contact with the male subject, who law enforcement says was completely unclothed.
Law enforcement was able to identify the person as the escaped inmate. He was taken into custody on the scene. The inmate has not been identified by law enforcement, but has been confirmed to have been assigned to the custody of the Harris County Prison Camp. Upon being taken into custody, the individual was transported back to the prison camp and turned over to the custody of staff at the facility.
