38-year-old Meredith Grundy has been arrested and charged after a 16-year-old was wounded in a shooting early Sunday morning in Dunwoody.
DUNWOODY, GA- What started off as a request by a group of teenage girls early Sunday morning escalated to a situation that left one of the girls with a gunshot injury. Police have now charged a 38-year-old Uber driver in connection to the incident.
According to a release from the Dunwoody Police Department on Sunday, October 5, 2025, at 2:30 a.m., officers responded to the Waffle House located at 4532 Chamblee-Dunwoody Road in reference to a person shot. When responding officers arrived they located a 16-year-old female that had sustained a gunshot injury.
Police conducted an on scene investigation and discovered that five juvenile females were at the restaurant and ordered a Uber to take them home. A Uber driver identified as 38-year-old Meredith Grundy arrived at the location and advised the group he could only transport four of the passengers, because he did not have enough room or seatbelts.
An argument ensued between the group of juveniles and the driver. Police say the argument escalated and one of the females threatened to kill the driver and struck him in the face while he was inside the car. The driver then fired a gun and struck the female that had struck him. The other juveniles told responding officers that the assault and threat did not happen until after the gunshots.
The unidentified 16-year-old victim was transported to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta for treatment of her injuries. According to police as of the release she was listed in critical but stable condition.
Police took Grundy into custody on the scene. He was transported to the DeKalb County Jail and has been charged with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. Police say the investigation is ongoing at this time.
