During a press conference Atlanta Police provided a possible motive in connection to the shooting. Their investigation indicates Smith drove to the home and fired shots into the home after a phone conversation between the brother of Zoey and Smith. During that conversation it is suspected Smith threatened to shoot up the home where Zoey’s brother was at. The duo drove to the home and it is suspected 19-year-old Smith fired shots into the home. Those shots struck the two victims resulting in their injuries.
Despite the arrests an active investigation continues into the case. Anyone with any information should contact the Atlanta Police Department’s Homicide Unit. 7-year-old Zoey is Atlanta’s youngest homicide victim of 2026.
