MACON, GA- The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed a 36-year-old pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle in Macon on Friday night. The 39-year-old driver that struck the vehicle remained on scene and cooperated with police but was later charged.
Information released by the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office indicates Macon-Bibb E-911 received a report of a pedestrian involved accident in the area of Jeffersonville Road and Purnell Drive around 9 p.m. on Friday, January 23, 2026.
Deputies and other first responders rushed to the scene and located 36-year-old Eric Felix Wilburn, who had been struck by a vehicle, while he was walking along the roadway. The Bibb County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and pronounced Mr. Wilburn deceased on the scene.
The driver of the vehicle that is suspected of striking Wilburn remained on the scene until law enforcement arrived and notified 911 of the accident. He has been identified as 39-year-old Daniel Hicks.
Deputies later took Hicks into custody and transported him to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center. He has been charged with driving while license suspended, no proof of insurance, expired license plate, DUI-Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol Less Safe, DUI- Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, and Open Container Violation.
