DOUGLASVILLE, GA- The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has been called in to investigate an officer involved shooting in Douglas County. The investigation comes after officers responded to a domestic related incident in which a female was killed and her husband was later wounded by responding officers.
The GBI was requested to investigate the officer-involved shooting by the Douglasville Police Department. According to preliminary information released by the GBI on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at 9:27 p.m., Douglasville officers were dispatched to residence on Littlebrook Way in reference to a domestic incident.
Responding officers arrived to the home and observed a woman lying face down in the yard of the home. Police also observed a male standing nearby. Officers confronted the man, who has been identified as 51-year-old Volanta Lejuan Walker, of Douglasville. Police say Walker was armed with handgun.
Officer’s gave commands to Walker to put the firearm down, but he refused to comply with the officers commands and pointed the firearm towards officers. A Douglasville officer fired a shot and struck Walker. Aid was rendered on the scene and medical personnel arrived and transported Walker to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The female victim in the yard was pronounced deceased on the scene. The GBI has identified her as Sabrina Walker, age 56, of Douglasville. Investigators say Sabrina Walker is the wife of the suspect. Investigators believe the two had got into a verbal altercation inside of the home and Volanta Walker followed Sabrina Walker out of the home and shot her.
The victim Sabrina Walker would have celebrated her birthday on Sunday, October 5, 2025, just hours after the shooting took place. The couple had been married for less than a year according to report.
The case remains under investigation by the GBI. No officers were injured in the shooting. Upon completion of the GBI investigation the findings will be forward to the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office for review.
