DEKALB COUNTY, GA- A DeKalb County police officer is in the hospital recovering after being stabbed during an incident at a Covington Highway gas station early Friday morning. The suspect in the case has been taken into custody and the officer is expected to recover.
DeKalb County officers were called to a Chevron gas station in the 5400 block of Covington Highway early on the morning of Friday, March 6, 2026, in reference to an intoxicated person disturbing customers at the business.
Officer arrived on the scene and were able to make contact with the male suspect. During the interaction police say the man began to fight with them and produced a knife at which time he stabbed one of the officers.
The officer sustained several injuries including cuts. Backup officers arrived and were able to take the suspect into custody. The injured officer and suspect were both transported to area hospitals. The injured officer is expected to recovery fully from the injuries sustained. The suspect was treated for “minor injuries”.
Police have not released the identity of the suspect at this time or what charges he will face in connection to the incident.
