AUGUSTA, GA- Deputies in Richmond County continue to search for a 21-year-old man they suspect fatally shot and killed a man last Thursday in the City of Augusta. Investigators have secured warrants for the suspect as the identity of the victim has been released.
Deputies with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 1700 block of Susan Circle around 5 p.m. on Thursday, January 22, 2026, in reference to a shooting. Responding deputies arrived on the scene and located a 33-year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound. Medical personnel responded and provided life saving measures, but the victim succumb to his injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene at 5:40 p.m.
On Monday, the Richmond County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Miguel Rodriguez-Cruz, 33, of Augusta, Georgia. He had been shot at least once and his body has been sent for an autopsy.
Investigators with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office quickly began their investigation and were able to identify a suspect. Investigators have obtained arrest warrants for 21-year-old Isaiah Romont Santos Thomas. He is described as a 5’8 male weighing about 145 lbs. The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office considers Thomas armed and dangerous.
