MONROE, GA- The Monroe, Georgia Police Department has announced the arrest of a 36-year-old man in connection to a shooting Sunday that claimed the life of a 22-year-old pregnant woman and left one other person injured. The suspect is now in custody facing charges related to the incident.
On Sunday, January 25, 2026, at around 2:30 a.m. officers with the Monroe Police Department were dispatched to a residence in the 100 block of G.W. Carver Drive in the City of Monroe in reference to a shooting. When officers arrived on the scene they located a 22-year-old female deceased of gunshot wounds. Police also located a 25-year-old male that had sustained injuries related to gunshots.
The female victim has been identified as 22-year-old Teonia Stokes, of Social Circle, GA. Police say Stokes was seven months pregnant at the time of the shooting. The male victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment of his injuries. No information has been provided about his current condition.
Investigators with the Monroe Police Department immediately began their investigation into the incident and were able to quickly identify a suspect in connection to the shooting. Arrest warrants were obtained for 36-year-old Dorreous Brooks of Monroe.
Brooks was taken into custody by Monroe Police with assistance from partner agencies including the Walton County Sheriff’s Office and Barrow County Sheriff’s Office. Brooks has been charged with felony murder and feticide. He is being held without bond.
