ATLANTA, GA- A six week operation spearheaded by the FBI and United States Marshals Service has pooled resources from across the State of Georgia and brought 177 violent wanted fugitives off the streets of various parts of Georgia.
On Thursday, FBI Atlanta Special Agent in Charge Paul Brown and United States Marshal for the Northern District of Georgia Thomas Brown announced the results of ‘Operation No Escape’. The operation was a surge of resources to locate fugitives across Georgia over a six-week period. The operation combined federal, local and state resources together to capture 177 fugitives across Georgia.
Operation No Escape had a targeted effort to apprehend fugitives of violent crimes in categories such as; homicide, assault, sexual assault, robbery, burglary, drug distribution, and crimes against children. The operation netted 28 fugitives that were wanted for murder, homicide, or manslaughter. 60 people charged with assault were also apprehended. In addition eight of the fugitives that were picked up were wanted for crimes against children.
“Here in Georgia, we aren’t standing idly by. We are addressing violent crime head-on through intelligence and partnerships,” said FBI Atlanta Special Agent in Charge Paul Brown. “We promise to continue our work to disrupt violent crimes, drug organizations, and human traffickers whose criminal acts devastate families and communities.”
“This is a message for all criminals, both foreign and domestic. The United States Department of Justice is coming for you. If you harm United States citizens, you will not be allowed a moment of peace. You will be apprehended, and you will be prosecuted for your crimes. Through our great partnerships with local, state, and federal law enforcement, we will continue to make the United States a safer place.”
According to information released on the operations the bulk of the arrests took place in Metro Atlanta, where more than 106 arrests were reported to have taken place. Additionally 27 arrests occurred in Columbus, Albany, and Valdosta. Macon and Athens recorded 16 arrests. 15 arrests took place in Cartersville, Dalton, and Gainesville. 11 of the fugitives were captured at Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson Airport. The Augusta and Statesboro area netted 9 fugitive arrests and Savannah and Brunswick closed out the arrests with five.
