ATLANTA, GA- An employee of an armored car company is recovering after being injured Monday morning during an attempted robbery at a Southwest Atlanta area grocery store. The suspect was later apprehended in a nearby community after a traffic accident.
According to the Atlanta Police Department officers were called to the Kroger store located at 2685 Metropolitan Parkway at 9:09 a.m. on Monday, September 15, 2025, in reference to an aggravated assault. Upon arrival, officers located a male victim that had been grazed by a bullet across the head.
Police say the victim was alert, conscious, and breathing. Police also state the victim was employed by a armored car company and was transporting currency at the time of the incident.
The preliminary investigation by APD, indicates the armored vehicle was the target of an attempted robbery. Police say a male suspect waited and ambushed the victim, and shot at the victim resulting in the graze to the head. The suspect fled the scene in a Honda with a stolen bag of money that police say contained $50,000.
Police issued a Be On The Lookout (BOLO) alert for the vehicle. The suspect vehicle was later reported to have been involved in an accident in nearby Forest Park, Georgia. The suspect was taken into custody by police with the Forest Park Police Department.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation has responded to the scene and have taken lead in the investigation. There has been no word on charges at this time and an active investigation remains. Police have not released the identity of the suspect as of press time. The armored car employee injured in the shooting has been transported to a local hospital for treatment and is expected to survive their injuries.
