ATLANTA, GA- Police in Atlanta are investigating the fatal shooting of a 14-year-old male at an apartment in Atlanta on Wednesday evening. Police suspect the shooting may have stemmed from an incident of the teen “mishandling the firearm”.
According to Atlanta police, officers were called to the area of 565 Greensferry Avenue SW in reference to a person shot at 7:13 p.m. on Wednesday, January 14, 2026. Responding officers arrived on the scene and located a 14-year-old male that had sustained a gunshot wound.
The victim was transported to a local area hospital for treatment and listed in critical condition. Despite the efforts of medical personnel at the hospital the victim succumb to his injuries and was pronounced deceased by staff at the hospital.
Atlanta police say their preliminary investigation indicates the victim and another male were mishandling a firearm at the location, which resulted in a negligent discharge of the firearm.
The Atlanta Police Department homicide unit responded to the scene and took lead in the investigation. The investigation is still ongoing. Police say they did detain a person in connection to the investigation, but it has not been any word if charges will be filed.
