LAGRANGE, GA- Scary moments unfolded on the campus of a college campus in west central Georgia on Wednesday morning. A device that was discovered near one of the campuses dormitories that prompted a response from police, who later deemed the device as safe.
LaGrange police responded to the campus of LaGrange College around 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, in reference to a device that was discovered in an unoccupied dorm room at a dormitory located on Broad Street in LaGrange. The resident advisor that discovered the device quickly alerted authorities who responded to the scene and secured the the scene while the device was investigated.
Investigators with the LaGrange Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division arrived to the scene. Officials also alerted the Georgia Bureau of Investigations Bomb Squad, who was responding to the scene. However, prior to the arrival of the GBI Bomb Squad CID investigators with LaGrange PD determined the device was not a threat and was just a prop created for a theater class assignment.
Police say the student that had previously occupied the room had failed to discard the prop or otherwise secure it. The prop device was taken by police. At no point was there any danger to students or the general public. Students at LaGrange College have not yet returned to campus from their Christmas break.
