COLUMBUS, GA- Police in west central Georgia are seeking to find a 28-year-old man they suspect in a Monday drive-by shooting in Columbus. Police suspect the man they are looking to locate is responsible for shooting his 24-year-old wife and 7-year-old son in the incident.
Columbus police are seeking to find 28-year-old Jontay Reynolds. According to CPD on Monday, September 22, 2025, at 6:43 p.m., patrol officers with CPD were dispatched the 1800 block of Susan Lane in reference to a report of shots being fired. When officers arrived they located several shell casings in the roadway, but did not find any victims.
A short time later, the Columbus 911 center received a second call that reported two gunshot victims that were at the Columbus Police Department’s Eastside Precinct on Buena Vista Road. Police say the shooting victims were identified as a 24-year-old female and a 7-year-old male.
The two victims were transported to Piedmont Midtown Medical Center in Columbus for treatment of their injuries. Police say the injuries sustained by the child were classified as minor. The female shooting victim sustained more serious injuries and has been listed in critical condition.
The Columbus Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit was dispatched to the scene and assumed the lead in the investigation. Preliminary information indicates investigators have identified 28-year-old Jontay Reynolds as the suspect in the double shooting. Police have confirmed Reynolds is the husband of the female shooting victim and the father of the 7-year-old child.
Investigators have obtained arrest warrants for Reynolds in connection to the drive-by shooting on Susan Lane. He is facing charges of two counts of Aggravated Assault (family violence). Police say that additional charges may be forth coming as their investigation continues.
