JONESBORO, GA- The Clayton County Police Department is investigating a fatal Monday evening shooting in a residential area in Jonesboro. The shooting claimed the life of a 17-year-old teenager and have left investigators seeking a motive and suspect in connection to the case.
According to the Clayton County Police Department officers were called to the 40 block of Darwin Drive in Jonesboro, Georgia on the night of Monday, June 29, 2026, in reference to a person down. Officer arrived on the scene and located a male victim that had sustained an apparent gunshot wound.
The 17-year-old victim was pronounced deceased on the scene and has been identified as Fernando Chacon Santana, by the Clayton County Medical Examiners Office.
Clayton County detectives are investigating the incident and have not announced a possible motive or suspect in the shooting at this time. An active investigation is ongoing.
The fatal shooting comes just 10 days after 16-year-old Jalil Jones of Jonesboro was killed in a fatal shooting in the 800 block of Mt Zion Road in Clayton County. Late last week police and US Marshals arrested 16-year-old Joshua Clinton in connection to the death of Jones.
