CLAYTON COUNTY, GA- A 16-year-old teen was killed in a fatal shooting in Clayton County on Friday evening. Investigators are now working the case as the person responsible for the shooting still remains on the loose.
According to the Clayton County Police Department, officers with their agency were dispatched to the 800 block of Mt. Zion Road on Friday, June 19, 2026, at around 6:00 p.m. in reference to a person shot. Officers quickly responded to the scene.
When officers arrived they found a 16-year-old male that had sustained a gunshot wound. EMS arrived on the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment of the injuries. Despite the life-saving measures of medical personnel the victim succumb to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
The victim has been identified as Jalil Jones, 16, of Jonesboro, Georgia.
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing and police have not made any arrests in connection to the shooting at this time. Police have also not released any suspect information or a possible motive in the shooting. Additional details will be released as they become available.
