AUGUSTA, GA- The body of a 69-year-old man was recovered from a pond in Augusta, Georgia on Wednesday afternoon. Officials have released limited details at this time as their investigation is ongoing.
On the afternoon of Wednesday, June 17, 2026, emergency officials were called to the 1200 block of Gordon Highway in Augusta in reference to the body in a nearby pond.
Emergency officials from the Augusta Fire Department, Richmond County Coroner’s Office, Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division all arrived on the scene near the intersection of Gordon Highway and Doug Barnard Parkway.
The activity from emergency officials resulted in a hours long closure of the roadway and cause minor traffic impacts as drivers were rerouted around the area.
Officials were able to recover the body of 69-year-old Calvin Williams of Augusta, Ga from the nearby pond. A cause of death has not been announced by officials. Williams was identified through the use of his fingerprints.
The investigation is ongoing and additional details should be released soon.
