PEMBROKE, GA- Law enforcement officials are investigating the death of in-custody inmate at a southeast Georgia jail. A cause of death has not been revealed at this time as an active investigation is ongoing.
According to the Bryan County Sheriff’s Office on Monday, September 15, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. detention officers working at the Bryan County Jail in Pembroke discovered a detainee unresponsive inside of a medical cell.
Upon the discovery protocol of the sheriff’s office was followed and medical staff and deputies immediately responded and began to perform life saving measures including CPR. EMS arrived to the jail and transported the victim to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased after arrival.
The Bryan County Sheriff’s Office has identified the deceased detainee as Wesley Barrow, age 37.
The investigation has been turned over to the Regional Force Investigation Team, which is a multi-agency investigative team, that will be responsible for determining the factors behind the death of Barrow.
The Bryan County Sheriff’s Office has released no further details at this time.
