AUSTELL, GA- Deputies with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office have announced the arrest of a 31-year-old Lithia Springs man in connection to a deadly shooting at an Austell area bar that left one person dead and three others wounded.
According to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to Marlene’s Bar located at 3064 Emery Circle Austell, Ga in reference to reports of a shooting around 2:47 a.m. on Saturday, January 10, 2026. When responding deputies arrived on the scene they were able to locate a total of four victims that had sustained gunshot-related injuries. All four victims were transported to area hospitals for medical assistance.
Information released by the DCSO indicates their investigation has led them to suspect there were multiple disturbances involving two individuals at earlier times in the night. Investigators say those two individuals were Jack Dewayne Shanks Jr., and Chauncey Dashon Martin. The ongoing altercations escalated to gunfire in which Shanks was fatally shot.

Deputies were able to take Martin into custody. He was transported to the Douglas County Jail and has been charged with felony murder, four counts of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of certain crimes, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and tampering with evidence.
Investigators have released no additional details about the other three victims that were wounded in the shooting. The investigation is ongoing.
