A reward of up to $5,000 is being offered to help bring the person who killed 32-year-old Mary Matthews to justice in Smyrna.
SMYRNA, GA- Police in a Cobb County city are continuing to ask for assistance from the public in relation to the death of a woman earlier this month that police are treating as a homicide. Investigators are asking anyone with any information that may help bring the young woman’s killer to justice to come forward.
On Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at 4:12 a.m., 911 dispatchers received a call from a person stating they could hear a fire alarm and see smoke coming out of an apartment near them. First responders from the Smyrna Police and Fire Departments responded to the scene.
Upon arriving to an apartment complex at 810 Windy Hill Road in Smyrna, first responders evacuated nearby residents as firefighters battled the flames inside of the apartment. During the course of the battle, Smyrna firefighters discovered the body of a deceased female inside of the apartment. Detectives and Arson Investigators were dispatched to the apartment and took over the investigation.
During the course of their investigation it was determined that the victim had sustained injuries that were not related to the fire. Thus led investigators to treat the death as a homicide. The victim has been identified as 32-year-old Mary Olivia Matthews. Police say the victim lived alone at the apartment.
At this time police have not identified a suspect nor released a possible motive in the death of Matthews.
